What Finding a Person by Photo Can—and Can’t—Tell You

Possible matches can help you find context. They do not establish identity or truth.

  • Other public photos that may provide useful context
  • Original source pages you can review yourself
  • Relative facial similarity when a score is available

What it can’t prove

  • A person’s legal identity
  • Who operates or owns an account
  • Private contact details or hidden profile information
  • That a highly ranked source is accurate

Finding Someone by Photo: FAQ

Do I need a name or username to find someone by photo?

No. A photo-based search starts with the face in the image rather than a name or username. Results may surface possible public profiles, webpages, or image sources for you to review.

Can a photo tell me someone's name?

A public source may include a name, but a face match does not verify that the name belongs to the person in your photo. Check the source and supporting context independently.

Can I choose one person from a group photo?

The search flow accepts a photo containing one face. Use a different authorized photo with a single person. Cropping the circular preview does not choose a search subject.

What kind of photo works best?

Choose a clear JPG, PNG or WebP photo up to 20 MB with one visible face. A very small, blurred, obscured, or multiple-face photo may not pass the local check. Use your own photo or one you have permission to use.

What can a photo search return?

Photo search can return possible public profiles, webpages and image sources with visually similar faces. Results may include different photos. The source mix varies, and neither a match nor coverage of a particular platform is guaranteed.

Can a match confirm who runs a profile?

No. An account may reuse another person's photo. Similarity is a ranking signal, not identity probability. Review the original page and independent information before deciding whether an account's claims are credible.

Is finding a person by photo free?

Selecting and checking a photo locally is free and does not require an account. A formal search requires sign-in, credits and explicit confirmation. It uses 1 credit once accepted and recorded.

What if no results are found?

No results means none were available for that search, not that a person has no online presence. Zero results do not automatically return a credit already used for an accepted formal search.

Is my photo uploaded when I choose it?

No. Selection, preview and the initial check happen on your device. Sending a photo for a formal search requires explicit confirmation when the service is available. Our retention policy limits our original-photo copies to 24 hours from first receipt; external processing is separate. See Privacy for details.

Can I open saved results without paying again?

Reopening available saved results and following their source links use no extra credits. Results and previews are retained for 30 days from the first completed or failed state, unless deleted earlier. A new search uses another credit, and source pages may change or disappear.
