The face, beyond one image

What is reverse face search?

Reverse face search uses facial similarity to look for possible appearances of the same face in different publicly available photos. It does not require the exact same image file, so a different pose, crop, background, or lighting may still produce a possible match.

Conventional reverse image search can be useful for copies and visually similar versions of a whole picture; tools can overlap. Face search by photo focuses on facial resemblance.

A different photo can still be a possible match. Reverse face search compares facial resemblance without requiring the exact same image file—even with a different crop, pose, or background.

Best Photos for Reverse Face Search

Use one clearly visible face and keep the full image. These are practical input guidelines, not a guarantee of a match.

Works best
  • One clearly visible face
  • A face large enough to review
  • Sharp details and even lighting
  • A front-facing or slight-angle view
Less reliable
  • Heavy blur or very low resolution
  • Sunglasses, masks, or strong obstruction
  • An extreme viewing angle
  • Multiple faces or a very small face

What Reverse Face Search Can—and Can’t—Tell You

Possible matches can help you find context. They do not establish identity or truth.

What you can learn

  • Where visually similar faces appear on public sources
  • Other photos that may provide useful context
  • Relative facial similarity when a score is available
  • Original links you can open and review yourself

What it can’t prove

  • A person’s legal identity
  • That two photos definitely show the same person
  • Information hidden behind private or inaccessible pages
  • That a highly ranked source is accurate

A little more context

Reverse face search: your questions.

What is reverse face search?

Reverse face search starts with a face in a photo and looks for visually similar faces in other images. Possible matches can lead to public profiles, webpages, or images. Open the original pages to review the surrounding context.

Will this find an exact copy of my photo?

Not necessarily. Face similarity and exact-image matching answer different questions. A result may show another photo of a similar-looking face. If you mainly want copies or edited versions of an entire picture, a reverse image search tool may be a better starting point. Tool capabilities can overlap.

What kind of photo should I choose?

Choose a clear JPG, PNG or WebP photo up to 20 MB, with one visible face. Use your own photo or one you have permission to use. Keep the full image; the preview crop is only for display. A very small, blurred, obscured, or multiple-face photo may not pass the local check.

Can it search private social media accounts?

No. This service is intended to explore publicly available sources; it does not unlock private accounts or bypass sign-in restrictions. Availability varies; a particular profile is not guaranteed to appear.

Does a high similarity score confirm who someone is?

No. Similarity ranks visual resemblance, not the probability of someone's identity. Different people can look alike. Open the original source, check its context and date, and compare independent information before reaching a conclusion.

Is reverse face search free, and do I need an account?

Choosing and checking a photo locally is free, with no account required. A formal search requires sign-in, your explicit confirmation, and 1 credit. Credits come in subscription plans or one-time packs; buying them never starts a search automatically.

What happens if there are no results?

Zero results means no results were available for that search. It does not prove a photo is absent from the internet or an account is authentic. Once a formal search has been accepted and the credit used, zero results do not automatically return that credit.

Is my photo uploaded when I select it?

No. Selection, preview, and photo checks stay in your browser. Sending a photo requires your confirmation of a formal search. We delete our original-photo copies after processing, within 24 hours of receipt. External processing has separate policies; see Privacy for details.

Can I revisit results without paying again?

Saved results and previews are retained for 30 days after the search completes or fails, unless you delete them sooner. Reopening history, filtering results, and opening sources cost no extra credits. A new search uses another credit; source pages may change or disappear.
